Acer America has announced the first Chromebook to feature an Intel Core i3 processor. The Acer C720 Chromebook is the first Chromebook to have a a fourth-generation Intel Core i3 processor, and with this spec bump some people might feel it less affordable.
However, back in May Google announced that all the major companies involved in the manufacturing of Chromebook such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, and Toshiba will use Intel inside chips. So may be after sometime you might get a wide range of Chromebooks having Intel processors.
“This is an incredibly exciting time to be a leader in the Chromebook market, since customers are responding with tremendous enthusiasm for the product’s performance, capabilities and value,” said Eric Ackerson, senior product marketing and brand manager, Acer America.
“We’ve been breaking new ground with our Chromebooks since 2011, and our new Intel Core i3 model will deliver more of what our customers love about our Chromebooks, including excellent performance and all-day battery life.” The new lineup of Chromebook will feature both upgraded and new models, spanning an entire range of shapes, sizes, colors, and configurations.
Currently the Acer C720 Chromebook comes with a 1.4GHz Celeron CPU and 16GB SSD for a price of $200, but the new C720 Chromebook will feature a fourth-generation Intel Core i3-4005U CPU clocked at 1.7GHz with 32GB SSD. But you'll have to pay $150 more for this upgrade.
