Blackberry 10 For The Business Professional

The Blackberry has always been a go-to for business people, known for its security and functionality. As Apple and Android have been improving their platforms, it seems as though Blackberry fell behind.

The long-awaited Blackberry 10 was supposed to be the revival of RIM; however it has not yet seen a huge success and still doesn’t get close to approaching the popularity of its competitors.

Benefits

The Blackberry 10 is a powerhouse. It has a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, which conserves power while running at an incredible speed. In speed tests it will outperform most 4g LTE phones on the Apple and Android platforms.

Blackberry 10 also provides us with two different options: the Blackberry Z10, or the Q10, which still has the QWERTY keyboard in addition to touch screen. This phone also includes dual profiles- one for work and one for personal use. Keeping these separate adds an additional level of security, and is an added convenience for the user.

The Blackberry gestures could be seen as a benefit or a downside of this phone, depending on the user. A tech-savvy business person will have no problem learning to use this phone; however the gestures are a difficulty for the average consumer.

All actions on this phone are controlled by swiping the phone screen—there is no “home” or “back” button, there is no toolbar at the top. You must swipe up and to the right to see the icons with any notifications, and swipe again to the right to access the “hub”, where you can see texts, BBM, and emails.

Again, the user interface of the Blackberry 10 can be seen either as a benefit or a downside. It is complex, but someone experienced with mobile technology will not have trouble mastering it, and it includes some useful features.

Drawbacks

While the Blackberry 10 is great for emails and BBM, it is somewhat lacking for social media. If you are a website owner, blogger, or do anything related to SEO, you will probably find yourself limited by the apps, and by the functionality of the apps.

One of the main concerns about the new Blackberry, especially from users switching from another interface, was the availability of apps. Facebook and Twitter are now both available; however there are still ongoing issues with their function.

In the Blackberry World, Facebook has a rating of only two and a half stars out of five, whereas the Android version is rated almost 4 stars, and their Facebook Messenger app s rated over four stars.

For people working in social media and marketing, the quality of apps is devastating. Other important apps that disappoint include: Digg (1.5 star rating,) Reddit Feeds (2 stars,) Launcher for Tumblr (3 stars,) and there is a complete absence of Pinterest.

This aspect is vital to web owners because there is an increased focus on sharing content through social media, and this becomes difficult without quality apps.

Conclusion

If you are tech savvy and primarily need email, text messages, and talk for both work and personal use, go for the Blackberry 10. It has a beautiful yet complex interface, and has an attractive design with quality hardware. However, if social media and having a variety of apps for various other functions is central to your business performance, stick with your Android or iPhone.
