As one of the largest and most affluent economies in the European Union, the UK cell phone market is highly sought after by manufacturers. A number of competing brands attempt to gain a significant foothold in this market, as this will translate into greater brand appeal on the continent.

iOS

As seen within most smartphone markets, the Apple iPhone remains a highly popular choice for consumers. The release of the iPhone 5, and the older iPhone 4S model continue to remain competitive in these markets, with prices aiming at the top segment of the market.

The anticipated iPhone 5S is foreseen to increase iOS market share in the UK, as these devices currently occupy a 28.7 percent share of the smartphone market. While iOS is showing its age, Apple is forecasted to release a more innovative product line as analysis has shown consumers to begin shifting from iOS products to Android and Windows Phone; at least within the UK market.

Android

With numerous Android releases, there are a number of popular devices carrying the Google operating system. The HTC One has shown to be highly popular, as it has received acclaim throughout the tech world for its quality in terms of software and design.

However, the sales of the HTC One are foreseen to be eclipsed by the newest release of the Samsung Galaxy line. The S4 has received a massive public response throughout the world, with millions of units sold in the span of a few weeks.

Blackberry

The release of the much anticipated Blackberry Z10 is forecasted to increase overall Blackberry sales, as this is the first phone featuring the fully touch enabled Blackberry 10 platform. While initial sales figures have not proven to have a significant effect, it is hoped that sales will increase once customers become more accustomed to the platform.

However, the Z10 offers a stellar smartphone experience, all while offering the security that the Blackberry brand has long been known for. The release of the Q10 model is also forecasted to drum up market share in the UK.

Windows Phone

In an unanticipated twist, the Windows Phone platform has made tremendous gains in the UK market. Propagated by the Nokia Lumia and HTC product lines, these smartphones have proven themselves to be popular, in contrast to analyst predictions.

The Windows Phone platform features a much more minimalistic design in comparison to the popular Android and iOS platform, and is more text-heavy than the typical smartphone platform. Its wholly different design has drawn a number of consumers to it, as the market share for the product has doubled year over year.

Conclusion

Ultimately, these products will be eclipsed by the newer releases within their product lines, although the corresponding companies will continue to retain their market share in the market. It is anticipated that Android and Windows Phone will achieve a higher percentage of the market, as consumers believe these operating system to be much more competitive in comparison to the offerings made by Apple.

However, the cell phone market is difficult to forecast, as any release can upend market share due to the nature of the market to swing dramatically with every popular brand release.
